On March 6th, Judy Gootkind, Vice President of Creative Services, Inc. and Chair of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS), participated in the Background Checks and Employment Conference 2014. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., NAPBS and the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA), this one-day symposium focused on the importance of background checks and the continued challenges posed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC’s) 2012 Criminal History Guidance. Gootkind moderated a panel of professionals on “Why Background Checks Matter” and the state of affairs two years after the EEOC released its guidance on the use of criminal records in employment.
According to Gootkind, “Large and small businesses have taken steps to be compliant with the EEOC Guidance on the use of criminal records in the hiring process, but there continues to be a disparity among businesses based on size. Companies are spending time, energy and money to develop programs, and not all are seeing a return on their investment. This is a serious issue in the business community, and I was pleased to be a part of this discussion.”
With over 20 years of accounting experience, Gootkind is Vice President of Finance and Administration at Creative Services, Inc. (CSI). An active member of NAPBS, in 2013, Gootkind assumed the role of association chair. She regularly presents on legislation, regulation and policy issues and represents CSI at numerous hearings including the RI Judiciary, MA Judiciary Committee, CT Department of Public Safety, NY Office of Court Administration, and the MA Attorney General’s office.
