An August 2017 report by Office Team, “Nearly Half of Workers Know Someone Who Was Dishonest on Resume” states that job candidates often misrepresent or exaggerate their job experience, job duties and/or employment dates in job applications or resumes. Employers should "trust but verify" when conducting employment verifications, as well as other verifications in their pre-employment background checks.
CSI Associate General Counsel Kellie O’Shea, Esq., PHR, discusses these issues in a recent article published in The 2018-19 edition of The Background Screening Resource Guide. The article focuses on the importance of and best practices in conducting employment verifications for potential employees. Her article begins on page 13 of the guide.
