background check. Do I need to be worried about
what might come up?
A. Maybe. With the competition hotter than ever
for the jobs that are out there, companies are
proceeding with caution in their hiring. Embezzlement,
scams, harassment, and other illegalities hurt
too many companies and they are working diligently
to protect their employees, their customers,
and their reputations. A background check can
include criminal information such as misdemeanors,
financial and credit data, as well as any other
documentation that might be found in court proceedings,
which are public record.

Screening for Colleges and Universities at the
College and University Professional Association
for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) Eastern Region
Conference held in Atlantic City, NJ on April
29-May 2, 2007. The annual professional
development conference was well attended by
around 400 higher education HR Professionals
from Canada and eastern states from Maine through
the District of Columbia.

Industry’s Renaissance,”

Since establishing itself in the mid-1980s as
a preferred background screening vendor for
the highly regulated nuclear industry, CSI has
steadily increased the percentage of its clientele
in that sector. CSI’s prominence
in the nuclear screening arena was greatly enhanced
by the appointment of an industry expert as
Director of Nuclear Operations in October 2003
and the establishment of its Nuclear Screening
Operations Center in Chapin, South Carolina
in August 2004.

SAYS: Client Satisfaction High, Some Room for
Improvement”

Recently, Creative Services, Inc. (CSI)
invited our clients to respond to an email survey
regarding client satisfaction. We were extremely
pleased with the number of responses, which
represented a statistically significant sample,
as well as with the nature of the responses,
which were overwhelmingly positive. After tabulating
the results, we conducted individualized follow-up
with those clients who provided their identification
to discuss any concerns expressed, so that we
could take corrective action.

“Workplace
Violence Survey Results Released”
February
2007
The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau
of Labor Statistics, recently released the results
of a special Workplace Violence Prevention Survey
conducted to examine the prevalence of incidents,
the existence of workplace security features
and programs, and the impact on the employee
population. The survey encompassed over
128 million workers employed at over 7 million
establishments in private industry as well as
state and local government, though private industry
comprised 97% of the establishments in the survey
population. The data submitted covered
a period ranging from September 2004 to June
2006.
